Abstract

Objective: The objective of this research was to analyze the relationship between anxiety and depression in young women aged 20 to 30 years with the beauty standards imposed by social media. Methods: The study carried out is a quantitative research, of the exploratory descriptive type, in which an online questionnaire was applied to women within that age group. The analysis of the questionnaire results was performed using a scale based on the diagnostic criteria established by the DSM-5, with regard to the disorders under study. Results: The answers to the questionnaire of 200 women were analyzed, which predominantly chose the options where it is possible to observe a greater concern regarding the standard of beauty imposed by social media and their incessant search for this utopian image presented. Conclusions: This analysis, allied to other studies collected, evidences the constant female preoccupation with the standards imposed by social media, and what this incessant search for an unattainable beauty can result, such as eating and sleep disorders, in addition to developing or increasing depression and anxiety.
