Abstract

The use of psychoactive substances (SPA) has been a common practice in most civilizations since immemorial times and integrates the devices of human socialization and its culture. Its abusive use is considered as a mental/behavioral disorder described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) and in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD10), causing several damages in the life of those who suffer from this disorder. Because it is a growing epidemic worldwide with different age groups and social classes, it is evident the growing need for effective care technologies and the urgency for an increasingly effective therapeutic drug therapy in the treatment of the disorder by use of SPA - cocaine. Thus, this systematic review of the literature aims to assess the efficacy of the use of modafinil in the treatment of disorder in cocaine users. Secondarily, we aim to elucidate the neurobiolobiologic bases for action of modafinil in chemical dependence and its therapeutic rationale, as well as to describe the neuropsychopathological and phenomenological aspects of psychoactive substance abuse, specifically cocaine. For the bibliographic survey, we searched the databases SciELO, PubMed, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect platform, Virtual Health Library and Google Scholar, in addition to consulting specialized academic literature relevant to the topic and key references identified in the bibliographic survey. For the literature review, the search of the articles occurred in the SciELO and PubMed/MEDLINE databases. The selected bibliography was submitted to exploratory reading, selective reading of titles and abstracts, analytical reading and analysis of the selected texts, at which time new documents could be added and others could be withdrawn according to inclusion and exclusion criteria until the conclusion of this work; and finally the interpretive reading, in order to provide greater acceptance to the results obtained with the analytical reading. After interpretive reading, we intended to elaborate the analysis of the information obtained and discuss them in the scope of the proposed theme in search of the established objectives.
