Abstract

Introduction: Depression it's been considered, in the last decades, a major problem in Public Health, imposing a heavy burden in the society, being the fourth cause of social burden and leading to a reduction of 4.4% in life expectancy. The WHO predicts a worsening of the situation in 2020. The conditions of work are intimately associated to the development and aggravation of depressive disorders. The work in the bank clerk area has been one of the most affected with the reformulation in its administrative organization after the 90's decade of last century, mainly with automation, with the aggravation in the worker's mental health. Objectives: To accomplish a speech analysis in bank clerks, seeking a deepening understanding of the causes of their psychic sickening. Methods: It was made a case study in six individuals, bank clerks, with depression, analyzing their speech about their sickening and work relations. Results: All subjects interviewed reported the beginning of their depressive symptoms in relation with situations involving work and described feelings in the negative sphere of humor. Were reported, also, diverse situations, including moral harassment and humiliation in the work environment with progressive deterioration of life quality. Conclusions: It is necessary changes in the work relations inside bank organizations, with a higher awareness of the impact of the organization's attitudes towards the subordinate workers' health. It's also necessary more long term studies in order to reinforce this causal nexus and give more data to propose improvements in these relations
