OUTCOMES ASSOCIATED WITH EARLY AND LATE ONSET EPILEPSY IN PATIENTS OF ECONOMICALLY ACTIVE AGE

Abstract

Objective: To determine the frequency of early and late epilepsy, in addition to exploring the outcomes associated with the onset of crises in patients treated at a referral outpatient clinic in the city of Salvador-BA. Methodology: Analytical cross-sectional study conducted through a questionnaire with patients from the epilepsy outpatient clinic of a reference center in Salvador-BA, 14 years of age and a signed diagnosis of epilepsy. Results: Fifty percent of the participants were female and the mean age was 37.9 years. One third of the patients reported being unemployed at the time of the interview and 51.6% reported that epilepsy negatively interfered with their work activities. Forty patients had the first episode of crisis until early childhood, while 38.8% had after the age of 18. Conclusion: It was observed that not only in the work activity, but outcomes with cognitive impairments seem to be associated with the onset of early epilepsy.
