RESTLESS LEGS SYNDROME INDUCED BY FLUVOXAMINE? A CASE CLINIC REPORT

Abstract

The Restless Legs Syndrome is a frequent neurological condition which may interfere with patient´s sleep and life quality. Despite controversial study results, Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors and Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors seem to be potential Syndrome’s inducer or aggravator. This article, report the case of a 24-year-old single woman, prescribed with Fluvoxamine 100 mg for Panic Disorder, who felt her Restless Legs Syndrome’s symptoms and frequency exacerbated. The syndrome reverted with Fluvoxamine´s delay. This seems to be the first case reporting a Restless Legs Syndrome exacerbation associated with Fluvoxamine use. While awaiting new studies concerning disease pathogenesis, in order to clarify us about the potential link between those antidepressants and the inducement or exacerbation of a Restless Legs Syndrome, clinicians should be alert to this potential association, which will implicate drug´s delay.
